Jeffrey Cervantes is a contemporary artist and student, who after growing up in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, is now living, studying and working in Brighton, East Sussex, studying Critical Fine Art Practice at the University of Brighton.
Cervantes work has gone through major shifts within the use of media, from illustration, to painting, to sculpture, photography, and the use of creative writing and poetry.
The exploration of material, symbolism and the concepts of culture and tradition has played a essential part within Cervantes practice.
Past work exhibiting in various venues have shown the inspiration of the tradition of filipino woodcarving and engravings combined with the notions of outsider art.
Inspired by his halo-halo styled upbringing, a cultural mix, in which is the main foundations of creating work, he aims to explore both British and Filipino cultures and how being part of a generation of young filipinos has the importance of discovering identity in the progress of globalisation.
