STATEMENT OF H.E. ENRIQUE A. MANALO
Philippine Ambassador to the UK
The officers and staff of the Embassy of the Philippines to the United Kingdom join me in expressing out deep gratitude to the Government and people of the United Kingdom and the Filipino and diplomatic/international community in the UK for their expressions of solidarity with the Filipino people in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan.
The immediate and generous response of Her Majestys Government to the disaster, particularly its timely provision of assistance, personnel and assets to the affected people and areas, and its commitment to match, pound for pound, the first £5 million donated by the public to British charities, speaks eloquently of the long-standing friendship between our two countries.
We profoundly thank the British public for raising £13 million in just 24 hours in response to Disasters Emergency Committees Philippines Typhoon Appeal. Moreover, the letters and e-mails from numerous individuals throughout the United Kingdom offering their condolences and prayers are deeply appreciated.
The spontaneous outpouring of support from the Filipino communities all over the UK not only manifests their enduring ties with the Philippines but also their empathy and solidarity with their kababayans in the typhoon-affected areas. This truly reflects the munificent spirit of the Filipino.
The Philippine Embassy also thanks the varies companies, offices, and organizations in the United Kingdom for their ongoing efforts and plans for helping the communities stricken by the Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan to rebuild and recover.
Once again, thank you for all your support.
