My stay at the Manila Hotel - Tuesday 12th November 2013

I have always heard so much about the Manila hotel. I first started visiting the Philippines when I was just 18 years old. My visit last week was my 31st visit back to the country and for me a very important trip. I needed to visit some charity projects around Manila so needed somewhere to stay which was centrally located and convenient. As my trip was such a short one, only 48 hours in the country, I wanted to spend the little time I had, in a place where I would feel comfortable, safe, secure and more importantly hassle free.

Although I had passed the Manila hotel many times, I had never actually arranged to stay there. I guess I would normally spend a night or so in Manila and then usually travel to Pangasinan where my wife's family are from. I often used to spend time around Baywalk and Roxas Blvd so had seen the hotel from the outside but never actually stepped foot in side.

OMG I so regret not staying there before!!!

I arrived on the night of Tuesday 12th November and as I had just travelled from London, I was really tired and to be honest quite exhausted and not really in the best of moods, however, from the moment I arrived at the entrance to the hotel, I was greeted with a warm smile and friendly hello. I know that Pinoy's are known for their hospitality and to some extent expected this, however I was made to feel so welcome.

I loved the fact that the hotel guest services team where even dressed in traditional filipinia. They looked stunning and very much in keeping with the history of the hotel. Of course the hotel was opened in 1912 so had a lot of history to live up to.

According to their website,, The Manila Hotel was officially opened on July 4th 1912, the commemoration date of the American Independence and was extensively remodelled in the 1970s. The hotel is also a Philippine landmark, home to high society and often a scene of historic events, the opening evening was pretty special with the hotel garbed in full regalia, four hundred handsomely groomed and elegantly attired guests were ushered in for a dinner of American roast, Philippine lobster, and French Champagne.

Anyway, back to my stay, when we arrived in the rooms, we were greeted with a luxury hamper, filled with lovely chocolates, bread and cakes, very kindly given to us. Some of which we ended up distributing to some street kids around Mabini street and Intraramous and the children were very grateful to receive them. So thanks ever so much to the Manila Hotel, for this.

The rooms we visited and stayed in were very luxurious, we were overlooking Manila Bay which was lovely. As I sometimes get back trouble, I am always very fussy about my bed, well I slept like a baby, the bed was very comfortable which is so very important. They had a massive TV in the room and the rooms which was nice, are were all very well decorated.

After a very comfortable night's sleep, we had the most delicious breakfast in the restaurant, so there were so many foods to choose from, the most amazing Pinoy breakfast all freshly prepared along with foods from many countries, so much choice and all very well prepared and tasty. The hotel also has a business centre, function rooms, outdoor swimming pool, health centre and extensive facilities.

Had the most amazing stay, also got to check out the archives which were incredible, many famous and historical figures have stayed at the Manila Hotel, including Prince Charles, Michael Jackson and even the family of the current President of the Philippines during his swearing in.

Come stay at the Manila Hotel, you'll love it and I highly recommend it. Thanks so much.
